The Miami Heat’s strong start to the season just got a major boost. After missing the first 18 games of the year, Tyler Herro returned to action on Monday night and immediately made his presence felt, leading the Heat to a gritty 106-102 win over the Dallas Mavericks at the Kaseya Center.
Herro Shines in Season Debut
Coming off ankle surgery in September, Herro hadn’t played a single minute this season until Monday. But you wouldn’t have known it based on his performance. The 25-year-old guard was sharp and confident from the jump, finishing with:
- 24 points
- 7 rebounds
- 12-of-18 shooting from the field
Herro also nailed a clutch floater late in the fourth quarter that broke a tie and ultimately sealed the win for Miami — a reminder of his ability to deliver in big moments.
Supporting Cast Holds Strong
While Herro was the star, the Heat got plenty of help from their frontcourt:
- Kel’el Ware was dominant inside, posting 20 points and 18 rebounds in a breakout performance.
- Bam Adebayo added 16 points, providing his usual steady two-way impact.
The Heat were also without Nikola Jović and Andrew Wiggins, both sidelined with injuries. Still, the team has now won five straight games, with four of those wins coming against teams with winning records — a strong indicator that Miami is building real momentum.
Mavericks Continue to Struggle
On the other side, Dallas dropped to 5-14 on the season and has now lost four of its last five games. Despite a solid outing from:
- P.J. Washington (27 points, 8 rebounds, 10-of-20 shooting)
- Max Christie (15 points)
- Cooper Flagg (12 points, 7 rebounds)
…the Mavericks couldn’t close late. With injuries and inconsistency plaguing their lineup, the pressure is mounting in Dallas to find answers.
Heat’s Offense Rolling Without Jimmy Butler
Even with Jimmy Butler gone, the Heat have found a new offensive identity — and it’s working. Entering Monday’s game, they led the NBA in scoring at 124.9 points per game, thanks to improved ball movement and shot-making.
Now with Herro back and producing immediately, the offense looks even more dangerous.
Tyler Herro: From Sixth Man to Star
Herro’s journey has been steady and impressive:
- Drafted 13th overall in 2019, he initially made his mark as a sharp-shooting bench scorer.
- In Year 3, he averaged 20.7 points per game and won NBA Sixth Man of the Year.
- Over the last two seasons, he became a consistent starter and elevated his game to All-Star level, putting up a career-best 23.9 points per game last season.
Monday night’s return showed that Herro hasn’t missed a beat. He looks ready to pick up where he left off — and possibly push Miami to another deep playoff run.
