Week 12 Fantasy Football Booms and Busts: Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s Record-Breaking Rise Continues

Week 12 Fantasy Football Booms and Busts: Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s Record-Breaking Rise Continues

Every fantasy football season, one player emerges and makes the leap from breakout to superstar. In 2025, that player is Jaxon Smith-Njigba — and he’s not just rising, he’s rewriting the record books.

Week 12 confirmed it: JSN is in the middle of a historic run, and fantasy managers lucky enough to have him are reaping the rewards. But it wasn’t just Smith-Njigba who turned heads this week. From rookie explosions to quarterback chaos, here’s your full look at Week 12’s biggest Fantasy Booms and Busts.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba: Fantasy Football’s WR1 and Rising Star

JSN put on a masterclass in Seattle’s 30-24 win over Tennessee:

  • 8 receptions on 12 targets
  • 167 yards
  • 2 touchdowns
  • 33.1 fantasy points (PPR)

It was his highest-scoring fantasy game yet, and the most impressive part? He’s been this consistent all season. Smith-Njigba has now:

  • Scored double-digit fantasy points in 11 straight games
  • Posted 79+ yards in every week
  • Scored 7 touchdowns in his last 9 starts

He now owns the Seahawks’ single-season receiving yard record with 1,313 yards — passing DK Metcalf’s 1,303 — and he’s on pace for 2,208 yards. That’s above Calvin Johnson (1,964) and Cooper Kupp (1,947) — the only receivers in NFL history to top 1,900 in a season.

Fantasy takeaway? JSN is matchup-proof, and his remaining fantasy schedule — Vikings, Falcons, Colts, Rams, Panthers — doesn’t pose much resistance. He’s a lock for a first-round pick in 2026 redraft leagues.

Other Week 12 Fantasy Booms

Jahmyr Gibbs – RB, Lions

  • 264 total yards
  • 3 total touchdowns
  • 49.9 fantasy points

Gibbs was unstoppable against the Giants. He caught passes, ran with power, and provided the biggest RB performance of the year. With David Montgomery phased out this week, Gibbs took over — and may not give it back.

Jameis Winston – QB, Giants

  • 366 passing yards
  • 1 passing TD, 1 receiving TD
  • 29.3 fantasy points

Winston brought chaos and joy in equal parts in a wild game vs. the Lions. He might not be the long-term starter with rookie Jaxson Dart waiting, but in fantasy, he’s streamable gold.

Caleb Williams + Bears Rookies

  • 3 TDs, 0 INTs, 104.3 rating (Williams)
  • Colston Loveland (4-49-1) and Luther Burden III (4 touches, 61 yards)

The Bears’ youth movement is paying off. They keep finding just enough production to win — and for fantasy managers, that means quality streaming options every week.

Hunter Henry – TE, Patriots

  • 7 receptions, 115 yards, 1 TD

Cincinnati continues to be terrible against tight ends. Henry took full advantage and almost had a second score. The Bengals face Mark Andrews (Week 13 + 15), Kincaid (Week 14), and Trey McBride (Week 17) — keep starting your TEs against them.

Week 12 Fantasy Busts

David Montgomery – RB, Lions

  • 8 touches, 37 total yards
  • Game flow left him sidelined

Gibbs’ big day meant Montgomery got little work. If the Lions trail early again in future games, this split could become more concerning.

Jameson Williams – WR, Lions

  • 0 receptions on 3 targets

After three weeks of steady improvement, Williams vanished. He remains a boom-or-bust flex option with little floor.

J.J. McCarthy – QB, Vikings

  • 87 yards, 2 INTs, 5 sacks

The rookie QB is crumbling behind a shaky offensive line and looks overwhelmed. He’s dragging down all Minnesota pass-catchers with him.

Lamar Jackson – QB, Ravens

  • 164 total yards, 0 TDs

Baltimore’s offense is stuck in neutral, and Jackson hasn’t looked healthy or sharp since returning from injury. The short week (vs. Bengals Thursday) could make it worse before it gets better.

Philadelphia Eagles’ Offense (After Q1)

  • Zero points after the first three drives
  • Lost 24-21 after leading 21-0

Jalen Hurts and Co. stalled completely after a hot start, and offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo’s play-calling is under the spotlight again. They’re still fantasy-relevant, but momentum is slipping.

Fantasy Trends to Watch

Cincinnati’s TE Struggles

They can’t cover tight ends — simple as that. Any TE facing them is a must-start.

Dallas and Rams WR Shifts

George Pickens (WR3 in PPG since Week 9) and Davante Adams (WR4) may be pushing CeeDee Lamb and Puka Nacua aside for top fantasy billing. While both offenses still funnel targets well, fantasy managers should adjust expectations.
