Kevin Costner, who starred in “Yellowstone,” has signed on to direct and feature in a four-part epic.
Taylor Sheridan has some comments about “Yellowstone” actor Kevin Costner’s departure from the ranch to pursue another directing effort.
In an interview published Wednesday by the Hollywood Reporter, Sheridan addressed rumors of Costner’s abrupt departure from Paramount’s massive “Yellowstone” series. Sheridan noted that the Emmy-winning actor’s unexpected departure left a gap in his plans after they had worked together for more than five years to develop the character of ranch patriarch John Dutton.
“I’m disappointed,” Sheridan said to the Hollywood Reporter. It cuts off the neat ending to his personality. It doesn’t change the meaning but shortens it.

The news that Costner would be leaving “Yellowstone” and Paramount would move on to a new spinoff starring Matthew McConaughey was originally published by Deadline in February.
Paramount confirmed in May that the series finale of “Yellowstone” will air during the second half of season 5. Despite the continuing writers’ strike, the conclusion is still expected to air on Paramount and Paramount+ in November.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Costner will helm at least one of the four films in the “Horizon” series. Conflicting with his time on the Paramount series, he will also co-write and appear in the film.
A dispute arose between him and the network about when he would be released from filming ‘Yellowstone.’ Sheridan said to the Hollywood Reporter, “I assured him, ‘We can surely work a timetable toward [his intended leaving date],’ and we did.
An Instagram post from May revealed the actor’s excitement for the film, writing, “I haven’t felt this way about a movie since we were making ‘Dances With Wolves.'” In 1991, “Dances With Wolves” won the Best Picture Oscar and Costner won the Best Director Oscar for his work on the film.

In May, Costner informed Deadline that he plans to debut the first “Horizon” picture at the Venice Picture Festival in September before releasing it to theaters that autumn.
Sheridan has stated that the upheaval caused by Costner’s departure from “Yellowstone” has not altered his opinion of the actor. Sheridan added that he and Costner dealt with problems quickly and efficiently without involving third parties like lawyers or publicists.
“He took a lot of this on the chin, and I don’t know that anyone deserves it,” Sheridan went on to say. His movie appears to be very important to him, and he now wishes to devote his attention there. I’m crossing my fingers that it’s a fantastic movie and that it’s worth the wait.
Now that the canonical “Yellowstone” has concluded, Paramount is actively working to broaden Sheridan’s audience. According to THR, Oscar winner McConaughey is in “late-stage negotiations” to feature in a “Yellowstone” sequel.
McConaughey, in Sheridan’s opinion, “seems like a natural fit.”
According to Sheridan, “\McConaughey began watching ‘Yellowstone,’ and he reacted to it. To paraphrase, he said, “I want to do that.” When he said “that,” he meant delving into a realm where nature and technology were at odds. Following this, I said, “Buddy, that we can do.”
