If you usually get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) from the Social Security Administration, you might notice something unusual this March—you won’t receive a payment at all. But don’t worry, you’re still getting your full benefits. Here’s why this happens and what to expect moving forward.
How SSI Payments Usually Work
SSI payments are sent out on the first day of each month. However, if the first falls on a weekend or holiday, the payment is sent on the last weekday of the previous month. This means some months have two payments, while others (like March 2025) have none.
Why There’s No SSI Check in March 2025
- March 1, 2025, falls on a Saturday – Since payments aren’t sent on weekends, March’s check will arrive on Friday, February 28 instead.
- This isn’t a missed payment – You still receive 12 SSI payments in a year, just on a different schedule.
Changes in the SSI Payment Schedule
Many SSI recipients have seen irregularly-timed payments recently because of holidays and weekends:
- November 2024: December’s payment arrived a few days early.
- December 2024: January’s payment came early due to New Year’s Day.
- January 2025: February’s payment was sent out in late January.
- February 2025: March’s payment will be sent early on February 28.
After this adjustment, the schedule returns to normal in April 2025, with payments arriving on the first of each month again—except for May when both May’s and June’s payments arrive in May since June 1 falls on a Sunday.
What This Means for Your Budget
If you rely on SSI, the irregular schedule might require small budget adjustments. While you’re still getting all 12 payments, the timing may feel off.
For 2025, the maximum SSI payment amounts are:
- $967 per month for individuals
- $1,450 per month for couples
These amounts can vary based on income, living situation, and state benefits.
What About Social Security Payments?
If you receive both SSI and Social Security, your Social Security check will arrive as usual on March 3. Other Social Security recipients won’t be affected by March starting on a Saturday.
