Millions of Americans rely on Social Security payments each month. But not everyone gets paid on the same day. The Social Security Administration (SSA) follows a staggered payment schedule based on birth dates.
Here’s when payments will be sent in March 2025:
- March 12: If your birthday falls between the 1st and 10th of any month, you’ll receive your payment on this date.
- March 19: If your birthday is between the 11th and 20th, expect your payment on this day.
- March 26: Those born between the 21st and 31st will get their money on this date.
Exceptions to This Payment Schedule
Some Social Security recipients won’t follow this three-Wednesday payment system. If you:
- Started receiving benefits before May 1997, you’ll get paid on the 3rd of the month instead.
- Receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI), your payment is usually sent on the 1st of each month, unless it falls on a weekend or holiday.
For March 2025:
- SSI payments were sent Friday, February 28 (since March 1 is a Saturday).
- People receiving both SSI and Social Security will get Social Security benefits on March 3.
How Much Money Will You Get?
The amount you receive depends on your type of Social Security benefits:
- Retired workers: Average payment of $1,978 per month, with a maximum of $5,108.
- Disabled workers (SSDI recipients): Average check is $1,580 per month.
- Survivors’ benefits: Payments average $1,546 monthly.
- SSI recipients: Typically receive about $714 per month.
