At 81, Martha Stewart was Sports Illustrated's oldest swimsuit cover model.
The television personality and chef is one of four cover models for this year's edition, which celebrates strong women who "live in a world where they feel no limitations, internally or externally". Megan Fox, Brooks Nader, and Kim Petras modeled.
“When I heard I would be on the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover, I thought, ‘Oh, well that’s pretty good.’ "I'll be the oldest person on the Sports Illustrated cover," Stewart stated.
“I don’t think about age much, but I thought this is kind of historic and that I better look really good.”
Stewart, taken by Ruven Afanador in the Dominican Republic, was asked what Snoop Dogg, a friend and regular collaborator, would make of her cover. “Snoop will just think it is fantastic,” she chuckled.
Stewart's cover photo makes her the oldest woman to appear for Sports Illustrated's swimsuit edition, surpassing Maye Musk, Elon Musk's mother, who was 74 in 2022.
After her popularity as a chef, Stewart wrote cookbooks and appeared on television in the 1980s, becoming the "OG of influencers" according to Sports Illustrated.
Since then, Stewart has published 99 books, presented various culinary programs, established a lifestyle magazine, and developed her own clothes, cuisine, and home items.
Stewart, according to Sports Illustrated Swimsuit editor-in-chief MJ Day, has never allowed her circumstances determine her fate. “She’s changed with the times—always one step ahead, it seems—to build a wide-ranging business empire.”
Petras follows model Leyna Bloom, who in 2021 became the first trans woman of color to appear on the Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover.
“No matter what your gender or sexuality or any of that stuff is, it’s about what you make of life,” Petras said in a cover shoot video. “It’s internal.”
