GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Mexico secured their spot in the CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinals with a 3-1 victory against Haiti on Thursday night. Henry Martin scored the game-winning goal on a diving header 44 seconds into the second half.
Martin scored his 11th goal for his country by heading a cross from Uriel Antuna past Alexandre Pierre, who was the goalie. Mexico extended their advantage to 2-0 in the 56th minute when Haiti’s Ricardo Adé scored an own goal after poking in a cross that was intended for Orbeln Pineda from Jess Gallardo.
