The first season of 1923 came to a thrilling end when the Dutton family ranch was attacked and Spencer and Alex were split up on their way to help save it. Fans of the Yellowstone predecessor will have to wait a while longer to find out how these and other storylines will end.
The first season started in December 2022, and people hoped that the second season would also start in December. Due to the Writers Guild of America strike, which is now in its second month, that seems less likely now.
NBC Montana says that filming was supposed to start in Butte in early June. The production company had a deal to rent out the Butte Civic Center for film sets and storage, but Civic Center manager Bill Melvin told NBC Montana that the project has been “delayed indefinitely” because of the strike.
KXLF Butte says that the first season’s filming will keep the Civic Center closed for most of 2022. The production company will pay $75,000 a month to rent the building.
The show’s actors have also stated that season 2 will be the last. The actor who plays Spencer Dutton, Brandon Sklenar, told The Hollywood Reporter that it was true. The actor said, “It’s still limited, but I think of it as one piece. There’s just a break in the middle, but it’s all one piece. It will be over.”
The Yellowstone world has been through a lot of ups and downs in the past year, so this news comes at a good time. The original series ended because of contract problems with star Kevin Costner. The second half of the last season will air in November, and a new, unnamed series will pick up where that one left off.
