Animals for Armed Forces special adoption event over the Memorial Day weekend!
People sometimes save an animal, only to find out later that the animal saved them right back.
As a way to say thank you to military members, soldiers, and their families, the County Department of Animal Services will let them adopt an animal for free from May 26 to May 28.
Over the Memorial Day weekend, the department is taking part in an Animals for Armed Forces event where people can adopt pets.
The County Animal Services shelters in Bonita and Carlsbad are also giving away free shots, spaying or neutering, a microchip, a dog license (if needed), and a vet check.
To receive the Memorial Day adoption discount, please bring your photo identification and one of the following: Military ID Dependent ID Veterans ID DD-214 or NGB Form 22
Look through the animals at the County shelters to find your new "unit partner" pet. On the Adoptions page, you can find cats, dogs, bunnies, and pigs that you can take in.
The people at Animal Services say that you should also pick a second and third choice in case your first choice is already taken.
The South Shelter, at 5821 Sweetwater Road in Bonita, is open for walk-ins from 1 to 4 p.m.
