Fetty Wap got six years in jail on Wednesday after pleading guilty in a federal court in New York to being part of a large-scale drug selling ring.
The "Trap Queen" rapper, whose real name is William Maxwell, admits to selling 25 kilograms (55 pounds) of cocaine.
Prosecutors said he was part of a group that sold heroin, fentanyl, and crack cocaine all over Long Island and New Jersey between June 2019 and June 2020.
Maxwell said sorry during his sentence hearing in Central Islip, New York, in front of U.S. District Judge Joanna Seybert.
He said he did it because he wanted to take care of his family while his income from live shows stopped coming in because of the pandemic.
Maxwell, who was wearing a brown dress and speaking to a crowd of friends, family, and business partners, said, "I've only ever wanted to do right by my family and loved ones."
Elizabeth Macedonio, Maxwell's lawyer, asked Seybert not to judge her client based on his songs, which she said glorified drugs and violence.
Instead, she said, Seybert should look at a number of statements about how good of a father and family man Maxwell is.
