The U.S. Virgin Islands wants to subpoena billionaire Elon Musk for records in its case against JPMorgan Chase for Jeffrey Epstein's sex trafficking.
Musk has never been publicly accused of misconduct linked to Epstein, who committed himself in 2019 while awaiting sex trafficking charges in Manhattan federal prison.
However, Epstein had fueled rumors that he had helped Musk on business concerns.
Musk's spokesperson refuted such accusations, but the U.S. Virgin Islands government alleged in a court filing that Epstein may have brought Musk to JPMorgan as a client.
The Virgin Islands, where Epstein had an estate, sued JPMorgan last year, alleging its investigation found that the financial services firm helped Epstein's recruiters pay victims and was "indispensable to the operation and concealment of the Epstein trafficking enterprise."
JPMorgan's lawyers didn't respond Monday.
They have claimed victims are entitled to justice but lawsuit blaming the financial institution for Epstein's acts was legally meritless, directed at the wrong person, and should be rejected.
In the early 2000s, Epstein allegedly recruited and sexually assaulted hundreds of teenage girls in his New York and Palm Beach estates. He denied guilt.
